The Shell Parameters tab is organized in different areas labeled Tank Shell Design, Shell Joint, Intermediate Stiffeners Design, Shell Courses Data, and Intermediate Stiffeners.
Tank Shell Design #
Calculation Method – Specifies the shell calculation method used for design. It supports two methods: the 1-Foot Method, and Variable-Design-Point Method.
Shell Course Alignment – Specifies the alignment for the courses of the shell. It supports three types: Inner Diameter, Center Line, and Outer Diameter.
Standard Course Plate Height – Specifies the standard height of the course plate.
Standard Course Plate Length – Specifies the standard length of the course plate.
Shell Course Corrosion Allowance (CA) – Specifies the global corrosion allowance for the shell design.
Number of Shell Courses – Displays the number of shell courses.
Shell Joint Efficiency – Specifies the global shell joint efficiency for the design.
Shell Insulation Thickness – Specifies the shell insulation material thickness.
Shell Insulation Density – Specifies the shell insulation material density.
Shell Plate Material – Specifies the shell plate global material for the design.
Shell Plate Minimum Nominal Width – Specifies the shell plate minimum nominal width.
Ignore Shell Erection Requirement – Specifies to ignore shell erection requirement set by construction code.
Shell Courses Table – Displays the Shell Courses window.
Shell Stiffeners Table – Displays the Shell Stiffeners Table window.
Shell Joint #
Horizontal Weld Type – Specifies the shell horizontal weld type. It supports three types: Square-groove butt joint, Single-bevel butt joint, and Double-bevel butt joint.
Bevel Type Plate Top – Specifies the top bevel type for each course. It supports four types: Single Bevel Inside, Single Bevel Outside, Double Bevel, and Square Cut.
Bevel Type Plate Bottom – Specifies the bottom bevel type for each course. It supports four types: Single Bevel Inside, Single Bevel Outside, Double Bevel, and Square Cut.
Vertical Weld Type – Specifies the shell vertical weld type. It supports five types: Single-V butt joint, Single-U butt joint, Double-V butt joint, Double-U butt joint, and Square-groove butt joint.
Bevel Type Plate Start – Specifies the start bevel type for each course plate. It supports four types: Single Bevel Inside, Single Bevel Outside, Double Bevel, and Square Cut.
Bevel Type Plate End – Specifies the end bevel type for each course plate. It supports four types: Single Bevel Inside, Single Bevel Outside, Double Bevel, and Square Cut.
Intermediate Stiffeners Design #
Int. Stiffeners Start Angle – Specifies the intermediate stiffener sections’ start angle.
Int. Stiffeners Maximum Arc Length – Specifies the intermediate stiffeners section maximum arc length.
Int. Stiffeners Corr. Allowance (CA) – Specifies the intermediate stiffener corrosion allowance.
Int. Stiffeners Material – Specifies the intermediate stiffener material.
Int. Stiffeners Fillet Weld – Specifies the intermediate stiffeners fillet weld.
Int. Stiffeners Sections Weld Type – Specifies the intermediate stiffeners sections weld type. It supports five types: Single-V butt joint, Single-U butt joint, Double-V butt joint, Double-U butt joint, and Square-groove butt joint.
Int. Stiffeners Sections Bevel Type – Specifies the intermediate stiffeners sections bevel type. It supports four types: Single Bevel Inside, Single Bevel Outside, Double Bevel, and Square Cut.

Shell course data area includes a Shell Courses Summary Table including the following columns:
ID – Specifies the shell course identification number.
Height – Specifies the shell course height in m/ft.
CA – Specifies the shell course corrosion allowance in mm/in.
JE – Specifies the shell course joint efficiency.
Material – Specifies shell course material.
Yield – Specifies shell course design yield strength in MPa/psi.
Tensile – Specifies shell course design tensile strength in MPa/psi.
Sd – Specifies shell course maximum allowable product design stress in MPa/psi.
St – Specifies shell course maximum allowable hydrostatic design stress in MPa/psi.
t-req – Specifies shell course required minimum thickness in mm/in.
t-act – Specifies shell course actual thickness in mm/in.Check – Specifies shell course thickness check.
Intermediate Stiffeners #
Intermediate stiffeners area includes an Intermediate Stiffeners Summary Table including the following columns:
ID – Specifies the intermediate stiffener identification number.
Height – Specifies the intermediate stiffener elevation position in m/ft.
CA – Specifies the intermediate stiffener corrosion allowance in mm/in.
Typ. – Specifies the intermediate stiffener type.
Material – Specifies the intermediate stiffener material.
A-req – Specifies the total required cross-sectional area of the stiffener region in mm2/in2.
A-act – Specifies the total actual cross-sectional area of the stiffener region in mm2/in2.
Astf-req – Specifies the required cross-sectional area of the intermediate stiffener in mm2/in2.
I-req – Specifies the required moment of inertia of the stiffener ring region cm4/in4.
I-act – Specifies the actual moment of inertia of the stiffener ring region cm4/in4.
